Flags lowered in memory of Griffin

LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Jennifer Granholm has ordered that U.S. flags in Michigan be flown at half-staff to honor a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan. Flags should be lowered Wednesday for Army Sgt. Christopher T. Griffin, 24, of Kincheloe. He died Oct. 3 in Kamdesh alongside seven of his comrades when enemy forces attacked their contingency outpost. Griffin was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Calvary Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo. Griffin’s rank was posthumously upgraded from specialist to sergeant.
