Marine Lance Cpl. Brian E. Anderson

Died April 02, 2003 serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom

26, of Durham, N.C.; assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed in a non-hostile vehicle accident west of Nasiriyah, Iraq.

Marine Lance Cpl. Brian E. Anderson was always willing to give a hand, or his time, or his money. He just wanted to help. “Anything he had, he was willing to give it to others,” said his mother, Charlene Roberson. “He was always valuing other people.” Anderson, 26, of Durham, N.C., died April 2 in an apparent electrocution. Anderson was manning a .50-caliber rifle atop a truck when the vehicle passed under and apparently snagged low-hanging power lines. He joined the Marines after graduating in 1996 from high school, where he played football, ran track and wrestled. He helped the wrestling team win the state championship in 1995. “He would leave it all on the mat, whether he won or lost,” said Jim Key, his wrestling coach. “You knew he always gave 110 percent.”
